Running on Empty

Rough day today and its only 5pm. It started off great after almost tripling up at a cash table, ended up leaving with two times my buyin and from there I thought today was gonna be another great day… turned out to be far from it. › Continue reading

MiniSOP Event #21
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 | Tournaments | 4 Comments
Another deep finish in the Mini Series of Poker Event #21 $30 HORSE on FullTilt Poker which I put a lot expectations on myself to do well, in fact I am disappointed that I didn’t final table but I did make a run for it.
This was a $15k GTD tournament, with 877 entrants the prize pool got juiced up to $26,310 and paying the top 96. In all fairness this is a decent turn out which I had estimated we would get 800-900, there was a couple players who thought it would reach 1000 with late registration and offered a side bet but since I did not know them I passed on that.

Donking the DeepStack
Sunday, June 7th, 2009 | Tournaments | 3 Comments
The ladies (pinky and appers) and I registered early Vince and Gunn joined us for the $2 DeepStack last night. Its a good tournament to get into, there are not to many players and with 3000 starting chips and 15min blinds allows for some ‘poker’ to be played. It is a daily event but it does start at 11:30pm ET so be aware that it can be a long night, even with the 22 players in it for this game it lasted 3 hours.

Final League Game
Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | Assistanc3Online League | 7 Comments
This was the last league game for Event 1 and we ended it with a $10 buyin kicking in an extra $25 added to the prize pool. With 15 players making the points payouts that much higher too with a couple players looking to fight their way into the top 10 to make the final freeroll.
When I ran up against flushops Aces with my KJs top and nut flush draw I was looking to score a big pot early. I came up empty and that left the window wide open for first place overall on the leader board. Could Brannie or Pinky catch the Donkey of Poker and kick him from top spot? It is gonna be close.
The final table
hokiefan gets knocked around yet again, poor guy has been running cold of late in these last few league games, he gets knocked out holding kings. Hobag try’s to play fancy and he gets knocked out, caporal36 and pitbullplaya follow behind. Short stack Pinky makes her move and gets knocked out then Brannie who ran into some unlucky timing goes out in 5th.

MiniSOP Event #1
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 | Tournaments | 6 Comments
I played in the Mini Series of Poker this afternoon on Full Tilt Poker If you can’t get to Vegas this year, then this is the place to play poker for the next month, well that is where I will be and I need your money so come play. If not play come rail me at the table, I’ll be playing the June 9th and 21st HORSE buyins.
Event #1 $5.50 Buyin May 27th 15:23 ET
Entrants: 8,297 Prize Pool: $41,485 Places Paid: 1080
One of the first hands I actually get involved in was interesting
[8d 4d] Assistanc3 (4,120) raises to 300 MaybeInTime10 (2,460) calls 200
*** FLOP *** [4h 7s 7h]
MaybeInTime10 checks, Assistanc3 bets 400, MaybeInTime10 raises to 1,800
Assistanc3 has 15 seconds left to act and requested TIME
I’m thinking what could you be raising with that would only be calling from the big blind with your short stack and why are you raising so much? You have two overcards! is what I put them on and made the move to just put them all in.
Assistanc3 raises to 3,200, MaybeInTime10 calls 360, and is all in
Assistanc3 shows [8d 4d] MaybeInTime10 shows [3c 3h]
[4h 7s 7h [5h] [Jd] Assistanc3 wins the pot (4,970) with two pair, Sevens and Fours
OK this shows how bad some players really are, err not the above hand I played common that was skill, wasn’t it? Its about getting good reads from what you have seen so far. This is the icing on the cake about a quickie read, I knew this guy wanted to race but hey kids this isn’t NASCAR.
Blinds: 80/160
Dex420 (5,470) raises to 320, Assistanc3 (6,935) raises to 6,935, and is all in
Hello McFly? What you put me on 72o? Dex420 calls 5,150, and is all in
Assistanc3 shows [As Ah] Dex420 shows [Ad Qc]
*** RIVER *** [Qh Ks 4h [9s] [7c]
*** SUMMARY ***
Some players are just really bad, please take advantage of that.
I dunno, was it because of the previous hand where I played the 84d? I was very snug all game leading up to that and beyond. Cut your loses and muck high card preflop specially with blinds that low.
The next couple hours was rather slow and not making stacks of chips but at the same time I wasn’t losing any, simply picking up some small pots and using my image to my advantage. When I got to be low stack I cracked Aces with KJs turning a straight, that hand got me through another payout level.
It was sick tho, seeing so many monster hands go at it right after break.
Aces, Kings and Queens vs Jacks, Tens and Nines.
I was fortunate enough to be dealt 92o while that was going on, well there was one hand I would have stacked about 90k if I had played K2, would have made a full house and cracked Aces and Queens. So I continue on with my low stack and scored some late position moves praying my image gets them to fold.
Finished in 423
Flopped Trip Kings and slowed played
With the payout structure paying 271-360 I decided to make the call all-in on the river anyways and just hoped he didn’t make the flush, the pot was just to big to fold and folding would have left me with only 9 big blinds -antes. Its the right play on the river the only play in question was could I push him off the flop or turn? I honestly don’t think I could because he played a lot of Ace rag even vs the big stacks.
I really am enjoying playing these larger entrant games when I have the time to play. I’ve cashed both of my last two FullTilt games, this game and the MiniFTOPS Event #24. Thank-You to foldilox who came to the table to wish me luck and appers cheering me on aswell : )

3rd in the Triple Chance
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 | Tournaments | 3 Comments
Went onto PKR to see if my Omaha game was back on the list and unfortunately it is not.
So I went and looked around at some games, donked quickly in a player point game then decided to play roulette. First roll I bet 50cents and lost, then a dollar and lost, then five dollars and lost then I dropped $25 and won $50, and if your asking do I have a system then yes ; )
So I figured with those winnings I would go play a small entrant game and looked at this triple chance game where you get 1500 starting chips and 2 addons that you can use at any time. When the game started I added on right away and much to my surprise I was the only one at my table to do so, infact I was one of only 2 people in the tournament to do so. I thought that was crazy that no one else wanted to have more starting chips at the beginning of a poker tournament……..see it doesn’t even make sense after witting it. The game goes on.
With the blinds at 75/150 and an under the gun raise to $600 then a caller, I decided to limp in with my already depleted stack (did a lot of limping looking for a monster with my sooters and connectors) and get another caller behind me. I flop top pair with a gut shot straight flush draw and the UTG pushes all in (and has me covered) I make the call and another call follows behind me…. I hit my 9 on the turn so I am only drawing against 1 jack. I score this pot ($4,335) and another small one ($1,200) a couple hands after.
At Break with all the forced addons made I am sitting in 5th with $6,835
and the chip leader is well ahead with $16,775 and we have lost only 3 players
average stack is $5,142
Sitting with the button I fold, the small blind limps in and the big blind checks, heads up.
they both check it down and the small blind shows pocket aces, of course I don’t say anything but defiantly have to remind myself to steal that blind
Blinds: 150/300 25 ante
Hello Ladies ; ) pocket queens on the small blind with a caller I limp in and the big blind checks, I’m thinking ok I don’t want to see an Ace or a King, the flop:998 Nice, I fire out a bet and the bb fold and the EP caller, calls. 3s on the turn has to be a blank but does he have a monster of a hand? I check and he bets what I had bet on the flop, that is pretty weak unless he has the nine. I make the call and my lovely lady shows up to give me a full house, only dead to the pocket nines. We get into a re-raise battle and finally I get all my chips in, he shows a river’d straight.
Grrrr just got moved to the other table (down to 14) the Grr is cause the top four chip leaders are at the same table and I was enjoying my image on the other. Blinds are 200/400 ante 50 so its getting pricey to play and these stacks can swing it. 2 mins from 300/600 with 75 ante.
We hit the final table with 9 players, I am currently 3rd in chips and a quick look around at the other stacks I don’t like my position. Small stacks to my right means the pressure is gonna be on my blinds and the two big stacks are on the blinds when I am in late position.
600/1200 ante 125 are ripping me apart and I am totally card dead, which isn’t to bad as I have seen Aces cracked and monster hand vs monster hand, big raises, all-in and then I pick up pocket tens when an early position made a small raise. I push over the top for isolation and race against AKo and we seen lots of pain on the board but the tens hold up and I slide into 2nd.
Just before break I score a hand and then push from the small blind and take another pot, with the antes it sure adds up and gives alot more chips over 5th (bubble) for when we come back from break and level up 13 800/1600 ante 150. I have a 15k lead over 3rd and 10k behind first, oh and I start on the button.
Ouch out in 3rd $63
I pushed all in with ATs, which made it x6 big blinds and called by pocket 2′s that hit the 2 on the flop, whats funny is I said after it was a donkey call, and they said in return that they were the favorite “22 vs a10 preflop is almost 60-40″ Wow even up all night and it being almost 7:30 in the morning I know that I am more then 50% favorite. Just boggles the mind how far players can get on bad luck……anyways
It was a good game and happy with how I played, this triple chance as I said was the first time I played it so was wondering how others had “strategy” to it. I can clearly state that none of them have any. Most do not use the addon till they bust each time and third times a charm.

MiniFTOPS Event #24
Monday, May 18th, 2009 | Tournaments | 4 Comments
Cashing in the $100,000 GTD was my goal for this game on FullTilt.
The Mini FTOP events have a slightly smaller buyin then the normal ones but the reason I played this one was
it was a knock out tournament plus a super stack for $12+$1.
With a handful of pro’s registered from the host Svetlana Gromenkova to Phil Gordon
Total of 13 which I out lasted 11 of them : )
I didn’t get to be seated with any but still a nice feeling to know they are there.
Full Tilt Poker Tournament MiniFTOPS Event #24 Hold’em No Limit

Tournament started: 2009/05/17 14:07:00 ET
The game started off smooth with mostly “play” going on and not donkey moves, that is to be expected with the super starting stack. It is just to much risk to commit so many chips early with blinds at 10/20. What did surprise me was how few went to flops in the early going and it was only premium hands at a showdown.
I had some big hands early and most did NOT get paid off, but there was one.

For the next 2 hours I couldn’t pick up any big pots and patience was starting to run thin watching my marginal hands get pushed away by some big stacks who had me covered x3-x5 my stack so I just sat tight and peeled off flops when it was right, then this hand took flight.

I made this call after looking at my position and how many players remaining
was I gonna fold my way into the money and fold another big hand when it comes up?
could I even fold into the money was the better question cause it was borderline probable so I said to myself if I win this hand, I am in the money. If I lose this hand well my night is over and on to the next game…
The game went crazy after that, dunno if it was cause the tightest and sexiest player all of a sudden woke up and played like a donkey going with a coin toss or something else that’s not as entertaining to write but the table went into free fall mode.
Basically blinding out till the money and then pushed on a flop where I hit top pair Aces
but was out kicked by the river railing me in 1,176th place out 15,270.
Speaking of the rail, I wanna thank those that were sitting on the rail taking pictures and txt’n back home to family and friends about this game…
Pinky for letting me know when breaks were comming up was a blessing,
appers cheering on with my big pots and philV was all over them too.

vs Ace Ten Sooted

Last night I play a live game with some friends, I was getting hungry so only played 2 games
First game was all about calling down the bluffs. I was starting to shock myself when I called off with 3rd pair in the later stages of the game. I went on to win the first game rather easily, the second game I raced with 66vs55 where they hit the 5 on the river. Good time to call it a night…. or was it?
I come home chat with appers and pinky in the chat room for a bit, then got some dinner and played a couple tournaments (so far) on Players Cardroom because I was feeling good about my game and well when things are going good you should roll with it.
First game I got in with late registration and made final table with a decent stack.
Although I was playing well, peeling off some more bluffs my cards just didn’t want to come to me when the pots got big and missed out on building my stack.
Finally picking up Jacks on the big blind but now short stack, I push all-in to the raise from the chip leader,
who calls with ATs and flops trips…sigh
20 minutes into the above game, the deepstack tournament had started, and glad it was a deepstack because by the time I realized I was playing in it my chips had dwindled away.
I did make the money, but again running into AT clubs this time with Queens losing to a flush.
Getting the right cards to run the gambit just not holding up.
