$2 4 Player HUSO Replay
Sunday, June 21st, 2009 | Hand Replay | No Comments
This is a replay of a heads up shoot out match. Took a little longer then wanted to defeat the first player but he kept doubling back on me. The final was a little easier because while playing the first game I was watching the other table gathering notes. › Continue reading

90 Player SnG Replay (2)
Sunday, June 21st, 2009 | Hand Replay | No Comments
This is another SnG I was playing. Little more active then the other game but not much as this is still the same level of poker. As with 90 Player SnG Replay 1 I am looking for places to pick up chips and steal pots. I would have won this game if not for my flopped nut flush didn’t get rivered. I fought back hard actually from that point and kept composure. › Continue reading

90 Player SnG Replay (1)
Sunday, June 21st, 2009 | Hand Replay | 1 Comment
I was playing 4 tables at once when this 90 Player SnG game started.
Finished in 6th place, although my last hand played was rather brutal decision but none the less I was shooting for first. This replay is to show you how to play with position and looking for spots to steal chips.

Playing Tight System
Sunday, May 31st, 2009 | Intermediate Lesson | 4 Comments
Some people will say don’t use a “system for poker” but I do and I will share the basic concept of why it isn’t that bad of a suggestion. Below is a simple system how what cards would best be played in the selected position. This is “playing tight poker“, which is great for when you multi table in 3-4 sit-n-go’s. I don’t suggest this for a tournament or cash game strategy.
This system will help you with your position and because your playing more then one table you reduce the thinking process down to ABC. Once you have gathered up some chips or finished playing a SnG then you can play more about the players. Give this strategy some consideration next time you log into play some sit-n-go’s.

Profit Focus in SnG
Friday, May 15th, 2009 | Tournament Lesson | 2 Comments
Hi all its WyldBillH
Since the site is already loaded with tons of great information regarding specific poker strategy, be it ring games, mt tourneys, or SnG’s, I thought I might give some food for thought regarding simple mindset as it applies to being profitable at sit and goes.
Let’s call it “profit focus”...I know this should be the focus of everyone’s play, but I wanted to demonstrate how easy it is to be unprofitable by even making even just a few errors.
The Bottom Line
Much has been said regarding how winning poker is about eliminating, or limiting mistakes. In sit and goes this is especially true. My most common game is 6 seater turbos of six and twelve dollar buy-ins. In six seaters, because of the small starting stacks and rapid blind increases one mistake is almost always fatal; even having to fold to a re raise after continuation betting in an early pot can put you in serious jeopardy. So at sit n go’s, mistakes will definitely affect your bottom line.
Suck outs are everyone’s least favorite part of the game, but they happen. There are ways to limit your exposure to them; this is something you can seek help from Assistanc3 about. Regardless, they do happen, and they will also chew away at your profits.
Margin of Errors
So if we make mistakes we lose money, if we get sucked out on we lose money. That doesn’t leave any room at all for loss of profit focus, or what I like the call the “F#%k-it factor.” This is all those times when you say “f#%k-it, I call” or “f#%k-it, I’m all in” or my personal favorite: “F#%k it, I know I’ve had too many beers but I think I’ll play one more sit n go, and while I’m at it, why not move up a level?”
Now some numbers to prove two things: one: what a great poker player I am, and two: why there is no room whatsoever for a loss of focus in profitable sit n go poker.
After a good cash in the cake 10K last Sunday, I took it easy this week and played only eleven sit n goes at Cake.
The Results

So, I finish the week with seven out of eleven cashes. I would summarize my play as solid. I remember making a bad play in one heads up that cost me the win. I remember getting screwed twice in heads up that cost me wins. I remember getting sucked out on in at least two of the no cashes, and the others I have easily forgotten, as I try to do with all my losses. All in all a pretty standard week for me; would have preferred more firsts as that’s where the real money is, but in turbo 6 seaters the blinds are often pretty high by the time you get to heads up, so there’s a fair amount of luck involved.
Let’s look how easy this week can be a money loser. Let’s remove one $24 second place due to a suck out 3 handed. Change a $24 win to $12 second. Easy enough to happen, and we’re still cashing in over half our tourneys, so it seems like we’re playing ok, but we’re barely floating: we’ve put almost 92.00 in play and have profited barely more than 4 dollars. Now for the part that makes me right. These tourneys probably totaled around 600 hands. A player, not focusing on profit and his/her game will have said f#%k-it at least once in 600 hands and will have cashed in one less tourney, and voila…a losing player. The moral of the story: The more you say f#%k it, the more you will lose.
Conclusion
In all seriousness though, the point I’m trying to make is that a consistently profitable player is just that: consistent. As you can see from the example above, it’s a fine line between profit, floating, and losing, and so there is little or no room for sub par play in any of your games. And don’t forget, there are plenty of other players out there who are trying just as hard to improve, play well and be profitable. So between suck-outs, the occasional mistake, solid play by an opponent, and those games where you just don’t catch the cards, I’m sure you’ll agree there is no room in profitable poker for “f#%k it.”

School is in Session
Saturday, May 9th, 2009 | Tournaments | 2 Comments
Started off the morning talking with a student about making more of a successful run at playing poker, a keen student that sometimes lacks the fundamentals of bankroll management and suffers from bad beat syndrome. The good part of this is he knows his own mistakes so at least his has some where to start from.
He asked me to go play a game and he would watch, I ended up doing a SnG because he was going out to go golfing so a cash table session would not be because of time.
10 seater SnG on Aced was the game and location and the first thing I said to him when it started was “now watch me fold”.
You can watch the SnG on HoldemPokerChat forum in the thread 10 Seater SnG
It is a replay of all 87 hands played and shows my hole cards, I’ve even put up a thread in the A3Online forum which I mentioned a few key hands which you can reply to talk, question or applaud my hands played. The key hands:
- Hand #7 your thoughts of checking the flush
- Hand #30 really wanted to fire a bullet on the river
- Hand #61 if no caller I can bet, but the call reduces my true odds
- Hand #65 didn’t feel like bubbling out of position
- Hand #80 no comment
- Hand #87 gotta love the big chick
There has been a couple replies from Pinky and twinsie on A3Online and Pinky made a reply on HPC
I am going to leave commenting time open in hopes to stimulate your mind to learn
view the thread and make your replies in the forum topic Full Replay of a SnG

From 200 Chips
Saturday, April 11th, 2009 | Live Games | 2 Comments
After I had blogged about my cashing in the Saturday Matinee game
I went out and played a quick live game at a friends, there was only 3 of us in this game.
As you can tell from the title, I came back from 200 chips
…this is how it went.
We started with 1000 chips and off the start I get a decent raising hand KQ and got 1 caller where I hit the flop with a pair of kings, I took it down right there. I really should have slowed down simply because I know this player likes to bluff and I wanted to chip up early.
The above player gets knocked out about 3-5 hands later and now I am having to come from behind vs someone who does know the game, but likes to take advantage of my passiveness…or does he?
Most of the frequent online players that I regularly play against know what I am talking about, how it is relatively easy to steal my blinds but its always that one time that sends them packing.
Tonight was nothing like that.
After a brief chat and getting back to even, I was talking to him about how I can out play him and he says that he out plays me… lol. I do the dumpiest thing, chasing a another draw that misses leaving me with 200 chips. The blinds are 50/100.
Cue the Rocky Theme Music
I double up, I double up and double up and ….finally getting to striking distance.
I push one more time, with AK he calls with AJ…. and hits the freaking Jack on the turn.
Not even noticing the spade on the river gave me the nut flush, and now we are even in chips.
After another 10-15mins of playing I cut him right down and force him to be the one pushing all-in every hand, finally my hand holds up and I take down the win to a very hard fought and strategic game play.
I like good games

HU, SnG and Side Bet
Monday, March 23rd, 2009 | Live Games | 3 Comments
Played some live poker into the late night on my usual Sunday Live games.
The side bet was a last longer bet. Who could possibly out fold me?
what was even smarter for me was I made the deal when I had already took a hit to my stack but the fortunate part was the player that accepted the bet was BB to my SB, so I knew I could pick them off all night. Will give him credit tho, he is learning. › Continue reading
