Considering the Payout Structure

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 | Beginner Lesson | No Comments

How the prize pool is distributed is different from site to site with 2 main differences in the percentage awarded. For the past 30 years the payouts have been about the same style known as the regular payout and some people prefer a flat payout structure.

What is the difference?  Which do you prefer? › Continue reading

Satellite $50,000 GTD

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 | Tournaments | 7 Comments

Went on to Full Tilt and looked around for a bit as I was rested from my nap earlier in the day trying to find a decent game to get into, there was plenty but I opted for a 200 FTPoint satellite to the $50,000 next weekend.  I didn’t have anything on my schedule so trying to fill-er-up.

It had late registration open and a number of players had already been railed, when I got in there was 32 remaining with 10 gone.  The tournament finished with 51 entrants and top 10 got an entry and 11th got there 200 points back. › Continue reading

3rd in the $250 GTD

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 | Tournaments | 4 Comments

Was in the chat room this morning with ftw2009, Gnn56 and Vince who had already registered for the $250 GTD Turbo $5 buyin, I decided to get in on late registration which topped out at 41 entrants.  It wasn’t a rebuy which I thought it would be, I thought I had seen ftw2009 mention that earlier…. › Continue reading

$400 Guaranteed NL Holdem Tournament
$3.30 buy-in, R/A – Add-on for 2000 chips

I added on at start of this game to give myself some fold chips and glad I did as these players that were at my starting table were horrible.  The amount of rebuys they made so early was to be expected because of the hands they were raising then calling all-ins with. › Continue reading

MiniSOP Event #21

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 | Tournaments | 4 Comments

Another deep finish in the Mini Series of Poker Event #21 $30 HORSE on FullTilt Poker which I put a lot expectations on myself to do well, in fact I am disappointed that I didn’t final table but I did make a run for it.

This was a $15k GTD tournament, with 877 entrants the prize pool got juiced up to $26,310 and paying the top 96.  In all fairness this is a decent turn out which I had estimated we would get 800-900, there was a couple players who thought it would reach 1000 with late registration and offered a side bet but since I did not know them I passed on that.

A Doggy Dog Game

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 | Assistanc3Online League | 5 Comments

Its Tuesday, so that means freeroll league game on Players Cardroom

Irunbad has been running good with his pocket pair of kings a couple times tonight, although hunting for a bounty I come out of the cellar of the short stacks as I double through him.  Not a good strategy to just play for a bounty, should just take it if it comes.

Sitting at break we are down to 12 with 1 sit out so the points bubble is here.
I’m currently 8th and Hokiefan and Brannie are leading the pack with appers , rocksr8drs and LeMcriddle the top 5.  We come back from break with me sitting on the big blind, grrr hate when that happens.

On the short stack I try to steal the sit outs blind but caught by caporal who raises, I fold and even short stack.  Next hand I try to make a move vs appers with my T8 and she calls my all in with pocket 7′s and they hold up.  Usually the bounty winner goes on to cash out in the tournament, in fact only twice the bounty has not cashed, lets see if if appers can hold up tradition.

2 big pots on the bubble sends LenMcRiddle to the rail.

In the money and pitbullplaya is leading the way, appers and rocksr8drs are about even in chips, un till pitbull makes the  move on the flop with pocket 4′s on a K75 board, rocks8drs calls with pair of kings and takes down  a monster pot.  appers is feeling the heat on the short stack and pushes with A8 on a raised pot by rocksr8drs who calls with sevens, the eight on the river keeps appers alive with 5 big blinds.

appers hits trip sixes on the flop and re raises rocksr8drs who is holding a pair of kings, she gets her money and takes down the pot and moves into 2nd place, only 24000 behind first holding onto 6000 chips.  Looks like this is a battle for second, who can double up and hold on or who can avoid the mad all in.

appers gives it a go with pocket kings, nope that aint gonna do it but a well played game finishing in 3rd+ a bounty, rocksr8drs makes his move down a zillion odd chips but comes up short but did manage to take a pot down earlier in the game with 72 ; ) and credited assistanc3 lessons…. lol

pitbullplaya wins this weeks freeroll

3rd in the Triple Chance

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 | Tournaments | 3 Comments

Went onto PKR to see if my Omaha game was back on the list and unfortunately it is not.
So I went and looked around at some games, donked quickly in a player point game then decided to play roulette.  First roll I bet 50cents and lost, then a dollar and lost, then five dollars and lost then I dropped $25 and won $50, and if your asking do I have a system then yes ; )

So I figured with those winnings I would go play a small entrant game and looked at this triple chance game where you get 1500 starting chips and 2 addons that you can use at any time.  When the game started I added on right away and much to my surprise I was the only one at my table to do so, infact I was one of only 2 people in the tournament to do so.  I thought that was crazy that no one else wanted to have more starting chips at the beginning of a poker tournament……..see it doesn’t even make sense after witting it.  The game goes on.

With the blinds at 75/150 and an under the gun raise to $600 then a caller, I decided to limp in with my already depleted stack (did a lot of limping looking for a monster with my sooters and connectors) and get another caller behind me.  I flop top pair with a gut shot straight flush draw and the UTG pushes all in (and has me covered) I make the call and another call follows behind me…. I hit my 9 on the turn so I am only drawing against 1 jack.  I score this pot ($4,335) and another small one ($1,200) a couple hands after.

At Break with all the forced addons made I am sitting in 5th with $6,835
and the chip leader is well ahead with $16,775 and we have lost only 3 players
average stack is $5,142

Sitting with the button I fold, the small blind limps in and the big blind checks, heads up.
they both check it down and the small blind shows pocket aces, of course I don’t say anything but defiantly have to remind myself to steal that blind

Blinds: 150/300 25 ante
Hello Ladies ; ) pocket queens on the small blind with a caller I limp in and the big blind checks, I’m thinking ok I don’t want to see an Ace or a King, the flop:998  Nice, I fire out a bet and the bb fold and the EP caller, calls.  3s on the turn has to be a blank but does he have a monster of a hand? I check and he bets what I had bet on the flop, that is pretty weak unless he has the nine.  I make the call and my lovely lady shows up to give me a full house, only dead to the pocket nines.  We get into a re-raise battle and finally I get all my chips in, he shows a river’d straight.

Grrrr just got moved to the other table (down to 14) the Grr is cause the top four chip leaders are at the same table and I was enjoying my image on the other.  Blinds are 200/400 ante 50 so its getting pricey to play and these stacks can swing it.  2 mins from 300/600 with 75 ante.

Donkey 72

We hit the final table with 9 players, I am currently 3rd in chips and a quick look around at the other stacks I don’t like my position.  Small stacks to my right means the pressure is gonna be on my blinds and the two big stacks are on the blinds when I am in late position.

600/1200 ante 125 are ripping me apart and I am totally card dead, which isn’t to bad as I have seen Aces cracked and monster hand vs monster hand, big raises, all-in and then I pick up pocket tens when an early position made a small raise.  I push over the top for isolation and race against AKo and we seen lots of pain on the board but the tens hold up and I slide into 2nd.

Just before break I score a hand and then push from the small blind and take another pot, with the antes it sure adds up and gives alot more chips over 5th (bubble) for when we come back from break and level up 13 800/1600 ante 150.  I have a 15k lead over 3rd and 10k behind first, oh and I start on the button.

Ouch out in 3rd $63
I pushed all in with ATs, which made it x6 big blinds and called by pocket 2′s that hit the 2 on the flop, whats funny is I said after it was a donkey call, and they said in return that they were the favorite “22 vs a10 preflop is almost 60-40″  Wow even up all night and it being almost 7:30 in the morning I know that I am more then 50% favorite.  Just boggles the mind how far players can get on bad luck……anyways

It was a good game and happy with how I played, this triple chance as I said was the first time I played it so was wondering how others had “strategy” to it.  I can clearly state that none of them have any.  Most do not use the addon till they bust each time and third times a charm.

Daily HORSE Game Maybe?

Monday, May 11th, 2009 | Tournaments | 2 Comments

Yesterday I blogged about playing a HORSE game which I finished 3rd but it was  good game, quality players that actually know each of the variants.  So I got into the daily game today to assure I do know what I am doing ; ) and that these players do as well.

Was a slow going game in the early stages, usually I can pick off a few bad limit Holdem or Omaha players in the first few rounds and chip up.. but I had to grind it out the hard way this time.

I ran in the middle of the pack most of the game hanging on to just scoring blinds most of the time and it wasn’t till just before final table when my pocket queens got paid off that actually gave me some chips to play with,  At that point any raise I made pre flop would have pot committed myself.  Glad I waited for my queen.

At the final table on the big blind I had check my option holding King high and then two queens on the flop got checked.  When I hit my king with no kicker I checked that too but bet the blank river that was called
… I moved into the chip lead.

Currently we are playing Omaha Hi Low and we are on the bubble and I am sitting in 2nd place with 16k and 3rd has 15k, first place currently 19k.  With 6 players in the game still we are seeing 3-4 to the flop because no one wants to raise or fold preflop.

Just scored two big pots, one off the chip leader and the other was knocking out a player to put us in the money.  The variant is Razz, come on who do you know that can play bad cards better then theDonkeyofPoker?

Down to 3 players, 7 Stud Hi / L8 150 ante Blinds 1500 / 3000
I get annihilated with the 2 of them in the pot going for the low which one ends up making a straight vs my two pair.  Leaving me the short stack to the Holdem basically I had to push and hope they fold but they don’t have that button.

out in 3rd place

Back in the Saddle

Sunday, May 10th, 2009 | Tournaments | 3 Comments

Not often you can find a decent HORSE game these days usually to get quality game you have to set it up weeks in advanced but today I was treated to a well played game

Was a $2 buyin, with 32 players entered

just before first break I scored a Ace High Straight (Omaha H/L8) on the river and moved into 6th place, then in the Stud Two Pair Aces and Threes moved me into 1st.

While feeling good about this game, I ran into a sick set up when I hit my set of Queens only to see rolled up Kings for a set, dropped me to 2nd last in chips at that point but the stacks were all pretty evened.

To get back in to this game I had to fire some bullets into the big blind who called..
He had Aces, of course why wouldn’t he?
but what was that sound snap crackle pop and moved into 3rd, I know eh sweet.

At the final table (8) I had bleed away some chips but scored another big pot vs a really bad player in the Stud variant.  When he kept chasing to hit something, anything.  I took down the pot with a pair of 5′s and moved into 1st.  Again, that was the hand before break…

Things really started to shake up in the Holdem when the players really started to bluff.  I folded some decent hands simply because it was more profitable to fold and let each other smack themselves around.  I again started losing blinds but wasn’t to worried.  I did however play the 72 for a score.

We got to the final 3 after I busted a player and took a dominated chip stack into the Omaha…
after losing a big pot to a river suck out to scoop the pot, a few minutes after that I got hit by runner runner.

Out in 3rd but felt good to play a decent HORSE game.
its fun, you should try it
